Social Prescribing Hub Accessibility Policy
Social Prescribing Hub Accessibility Policy
We are committed to giving you a seamless and accessible experience. Our goal is to ensure you can access and use the Social Prescribing Hub with ease and independence. The service is for health and social care professionals. You need an account and an NHS England’s Care Identity Service (CIS2) login to use it.
When we refer to 'RIVIAM' we are referring to RIVIAM Digital Care, which provides this service and whose registered office is Cooper House, Lower Charlton Estate, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England, BA4 5QE.
When we refer to the 'Hub' we mean the Social Prescribing Hub, used by the customer.
When we refer to the 'Service Directory' we mean the public website listing local community and voluntary services, along with the directory accessible via the Hub.
When we refer to ‘Referral’ we mean the referral form available to professional referrers via HSCN or by secure login using CIS2.
You should be able to:
- Access the Hub using any device, whether this is a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone
- Change text size, colours and contrast using your browser or device settings
- Zoom in without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate using only your keyboard when using a desktop or laptop device so you know when you use every button or link
- Access the content using a screen reader.
Compliance with accessibility standards
Our Hub has been developed using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.2 and we are committed to meeting the AA standard.
Currently the Hub is partially compliant to this standard, due to the following:
- Appointments can only be moved within the same calendar day by dragging them up and down with a mouse. It isn’t possible to move an appointment using a keyboard alone
- The caseload, referral intake and service directory lists are sorted, searched and paged by RIVIAM. When you change a filter, a sort or a page, the new number and outcome of results is not always announced by a screen reader
- The calendar grid doesn’t show rows and columns to assistive technology in a way that makes the time and the worker clear
- The service does not currently follow your device’s dark mode, increased contrast or reduced motion settings, and there is no display settings page
- If you have set large text sizes and zoomed in, you may have to scroll sideways to view lists on a page and see the calendar
- RIVIAM will continue to review the Hub’s accessibility as the service develops to rectify these points, and identify any further ones to fully comply with the AA standard.
Simple navigation
To enable you to navigate around the Hub easily, we have:
- Added a side bar which is permanently visible so you always know where you are
- Provided a visible back button so you can easily navigate from a patient record back to a list.
Using a mobile device, the Hub’s navigation is enabled at the bottom of the screen, for quick access.
Making the content clear
Our aim is to make the content clear and accessible.
- Colour contrast between the text and background has been added to ensure readability
- All buttons are large enough to enable easy interaction and navigation. We have applied colour contrast to buttons and links
- The use of images and media has been limited. Any images added will have added text so they can be easily read using a screen reader
- Where useful, additional help text has been included, eg for adding a ‘Reason to redirect’ a referral, when adding notes, and choosing services via the Service Directory.
Always visible logout button
In the sidebar there is a logout button which is always visible, so you can logout quickly and maintain your privacy.
Content out of scope for this accessibility policy
NHS Care Identity Authentication (CIS2)
Signing in is handled by NHS England’s CIS2 login. We do not control those pages.
NHS England publishes its own accessibility statement.
Service Directory
Service information in the Service Directory, such as the description, logo and contact information, is supplied by the organisations that run each service, and may not always be written in plain English.
Referral form PDF
The referral form presented is generated from the data provided by the referrer. The responses to Its questions come from that form, so they may not always be written in plain English.

Changes to this policy
We may change this policy, and, if we do, we will add the changes to this page.
If you continue to use the Hub after those changes take effect, you will have agreed to the revised policy.
